the log file in /tmp doesn't seem to be any help either.
I've already uninstalled, and did ]# rm -fr /etc/dirsrv /var/lock/dirsrv /var/run/dirsrv /var/log/dirmngr
reinstalled -- same issue.
I'm really lost on this. I was hoping to avoid OpenLDAP, but I'm running out of time.
Hot diggity!!! Found an answer:

I'm assuming I properly chown'd to nobody.nobody -- lemme know if this is wrong. It does seem to have worked. I stress the word "seem" though.

---- I think fedora-ds appropriate logs are in /opt/fedora-ds/slapd-$YOUR_SERVER_NAME/logs
fedora-ds mail list is here...
https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-directory-users
I am quite certain that you will get better help there (maybe not today but tomorrow)
