No subtitle on VLC or SMplayer

[Junayeed Ahnaf Nirjhor]

Hello,

All on a sudden, I can't see any subtitle on smplayer or VLC . Sometimes 
embedded subs work under dragon player but that's it.

How to fix this? I've tried every way I know. And yes, I'm 
loading/locating the subs (.srt) every time.

Have you looked in ~/.xsession-errors for any relevant errors?

It's somewhat 19k lines long. I can't read all that :(

Just look at the end or grep for vlc and look at lines around it. If
you are not willing to look at error logs, how do you expect to
resolve your issue?

I compiled it from source . I applied

rm -rf ~/.config/vlc

but nothing changes :( I have libxml2-devel installed

Someone said "You need to enable xml USE
flag for vlc upon compilation."

How to do this?

USE flag is used in portage systems, alternative for compiling all
necessary flags, compiler ops, libs etc you provide by configuring or

As far I understand this is source build issue, so i can suggest you
install binary package at least for now, and if you have reason to
have source build, the later when you have a time to experiment,
rebuild it from souce, first with default ./configure, and then try
with differents options until it works as it should
