Video editing software: Recommendations requested

Hi there,

Im looking for a video editing software to edit .avi files with. I just 
want to cut them in pieces etc, maybe something like virtual dub would 
be nice.

Any recommendations?

If you just want to cut video in pieces I guess avidemux is perfect.
It is much smaller and less complex compared to cinelerra.
