What happens if you enter a "3" or a "1" (without the quote marks) as the last parameter on the grub boot line?

Just at that time it executes /etc/rc.local.... is it possible you edited anything in there before this started happening?
It would normally show you the text mode login prompt briefly before trying to start X... you're not even seeing that?
If you have another machine on the local network, try pinging or ssh-ing into this one. Also try clicking the Caps Lock key and see if the Caps Lock LED on the keyboard toggles, that'll tell you how dead it is.

you don't specify what MoBo, what type and maker of video card, so I'm not sure I can help you. I've a similar problem whit an ASUS MoBo and an ATI AGP-8x video card. Found a solution changing the AGP aperture from 8x to 4x in the BIOS Advanced Setting.

I wonder if you've hit an issue of the graphics mode running beyond the range of your monitor? You could try CTRL ALT with + or - on the number pad, to change resolutions on the fly. You could try CTRL ALT F1 to get to a text console.
If either of them makes a difference, you want to reconfigure your graphics mode. CTRL ALT F1 to a console, log in as root, run
system-config-display --reconfig
and follow what you can through the interface that pops up.
I have had this issue but not sure if it is same as yours. I am running F7 with ipw3945 driver (not the default from kernel) and when i boot the machine with "radio" switch turned off i get a blank. If i boot the machine with "radio" switch turned on then everything is fine. I haven't had much time to debug the issue but like to find out what is going on. I have a suspicion that "/usr/sbin/ipw3945 --quiet" command is waiting forever. But not sure.
