I have a Hauppauge WinTv-HVR 1800 tuner with an analog Cable TV (NTSC - Canada). In F12 I received a near perfect video picture from my cable TV. In F13, the picture is black and white with various degrees of interference lines depending on the tv channel.
I have played with (used) TVTime quite a bit in the last 3 or 4 years so I am familiar with all the menu settings and the configuration file. No matter what I try, I can't get the proper reception back.
I still have no analog sound for this tuner, but I see that as a separate Alsa problem.
Any suggestions as to what I might be overlooking or might have mis-configured with the video?

In the channel management section try and change the NTSC cable mode and see if that helps

If the manual fine tuning does not work then I don't know as I have had no problems with tvtime at all with F12. I have not switched to F13 yet because there just seems to be too many problems and I will wait for F14 as the video problems of F13 should be fixed by then,.
Try XDTV and see if you can get a picture clear. It's a bit cumbersome but works and it will record
I had to set the tv norm to ntsc m to get it to work

I'm assuming it's reception of the signal that you are having trouble with.
But if it's the output, it could be that the output is set for YC (s-video), but you have only the composite video connected (or connected to the Y pin). I guess the same can happen in the analog to digital encoding or decoding of the signal, but I'm unfamiliar with your app and card.

My video has returned in full glorious colour after my latest upgrade this morning. I spent a few hours trying to chase this problem down. I am curious, does anybody know (off the top of your head) what might have fixed the video? My downloads were:

you might be able to tell if it was only a patch to the same upstream archive, or whether it is a new upstream release, and can hence read their changelog...

I'm sure this is a redundant question, but have you enabled oss sound for alsa? If you do an 'lsmod' is 'snd-seq-oss' present? Do you have /dev/dsp present? I have problems with TV because my provider serves a mashup of unencrypted HD digital using over the air frequencies, encrypted content requiring a cable box, and unencrypted NTSC using either the broadcast or cable settings for those.
/etc/modules.d/dis-oss.conf is the disabled file, copy to oss.conf and uncomment the module loading, and see if that make lots of stuff work. Note: it may confuse something as well, although I haven't had a problem yet.

Actually it is not a redundant question. It is a good reminder which I will try in the morning. I tried it early on in process, when I first stepped onto the TV yellow brick road. It didn't work, but then to be fair at that time I didn't have a clue about what I was trying to do. Now is a good time to give it another try.
