"Getting printer information failed" is what firefox tells me when I try to print. Other image viewers go through the motions, but nothing prints. I can print a test page and I can use lpr to print text from stdin. I'm running Fedora 13 and Firefox 3.6.7 . In my effort to find a CUPS version, I came across system-config-printer 1.2.3 .
What should I look for?

So printing works in general, but applications using the GTK+ print dialog fail to print.
Sounds like a bug in the GTK+ print dialog.
Perhaps you would be best to file a bug against the 'gtk2' component: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/
