Exactly what I wrote after the <- above, the '?' mark above is a typo, it needs to be a '/' as there is no such disk label as a '?' that I know of. In other words, make that line read: kernel /bzImage-2.4.20-6new ro root=LABEL=/ and it should work.
It is correct the LABEL=? needs to be corrected but it will not work unless the root= clause references the same device dewsignation as the fstab does. LABEL=/ does not equal /dev/hda2 ------------------------------------------- Aaron Konstam Computer Science Trinity University One Trinity Place. San Antonio, TX 78212-7200

if /dev/hda2 is labeled as /, then "root=LABEL=/" will be equivalent to "root=/dev/hda2"
In this scenario, fstab can reference either LABEL=/ or /dev/hda2 as can the root= line. For cleanliness and to eliminate confusion both should be the same, but it is *not* required.
In fact I have 2 kernel versions installed. One references the LABEL and the other references the device. The fstab references the device.
Both boot perfectly well.
I wager that if you try that it will work for you as well.
