The following scenario can be repeated over and over again:
1. Get some sound out of your speakers - f.ex. your favourite music 2. Mute the sound 3. Launch a console (gnome-terminal)
Then sound is unmuted again. Is that normal, a bug or can it be controlled somewhere?

Is " gnome-terminal --disable-sound " enough?

I tried that but it had no effect.

That increases the likelihood that it's a bug, because gnome-terminal is directly linked against ALSA lib (libasound) and most likely uses it for some "features".

I saw this before. The PCM of a card just become mute. The "alsamier" command shows this clearly. What causes don't know. Here the alsa version is 1.0.14. This system has two sound cards and both are in use... so, could be something at this regards. But, am just wondering...
