Does anyone have quake 1 working on FC1 I'vo down loaded the various
versions from the id ftp site and I get bash: /usr/games/quake/xquake:
/lib/ld-linux.so.1: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory where
do I find such a beast

Try "sdlquake" - it works well for me under FC1.

Ben,
Can you tell me what you did to get sdlquake to work in FC1? I tried
unpacking the source from 
http://www.libsdl.org/projects/quake/ to my home directory, then ran
./sdlquake from within ~/sdlquake but got missing files errors..The SDL
package is installed and the latest. Any insight appreciated thanks.

I'm using QuakeForge (http://www.quakeforge.net). Get the CVS version as
the last released version won't load saved games.

Quake 3 was ported to Linux by Loki Software. Although they are out of 
business occasionally legal copies can be obtained through EBay or 
Amazon. Try a Google Search and you may get lucky.

Wasn't quake3 originally wrote in linux? I've read something about it at
the time of q3 launch..

And id's site have q3 demo for download on their site...
