Try "sdlquake" - it works well for me under FC1.

Ben, Can you tell me what you did to get sdlquake to work in FC1? I tried unpacking the source from http://www.libsdl.org/projects/quake/ to my home directory, then ran ./sdlquake from within ~/sdlquake but got missing files errors..The SDL package is installed and the latest. Any insight appreciated thanks.

I'm using QuakeForge (http://www.quakeforge.net). Get the CVS version as the last released version won't load saved games.
Marc.
Quake 3 was ported to Linux by Loki Software. Although they are out of business occasionally legal copies can be obtained through EBay or Amazon. Try a Google Search and you may get lucky. Donald
