I downloaded the Fedora Core 3 *.iso CD images successfully from the various mirror sites and successfully ran the sumchecker md5sum on each file -- all were successfully checked.
I then proceeded to burn each image to CD using Ahead Nero 5, it has a function to burn discs specifically from image files.
I then followed the instructions to very the integrity of each of the CDs I created by booting from disc 1, and at the boot: prompt, I ran the command "linux mediacheck"; however, all 5 discs (4 installation discs and the rescue disc) failed the mediacheck command.
Has anybody else experience the same problem? Shall I continue using these CDs anyway, since the original files I downloaded all passed the checksum test?
Thank you for your input.

This is a FAQ.
If the discs are burned DAO with padding (possibly just DAO) using cdrecord - they will pass the media test. Otherwise they will probably fail - because of a bug in the ide-cd driver, not because they are bad.
Something about the drive trying to read beyond the end of the data or something.
Anyway - your disks likely are fine - try installing. If they fail, see if you can get someone with linux to burn them using cdrecord from the cli with the -dao and -pad options.

Try "linux mediacheck nocddma" instead of "linux mediacheck" and see if that reports your CDs as OK. If they are, you should be OK to install with them.
Paul.

Always check the FAQ's (and archives) before posting questions: http://www.fedorafaq.org/#mediacheck

It should be noted that that FAQ is not an official one, and has some issues.
For example, it does not mention the cdrecord -dao -pad solution for mediacheck issue. If possible, it is better to burn that way and avoid needing to issue a command to the installer telling it to turn dma off on the CD drive.
The yum.conf instructions use fc2 fedora extras, really should use pre- extras now that pre-extras is available.
the yum.conf is everything in one file, while that works - it is probably best to take advantage of the /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory
Perhaps an official Fedora maintained FAQ should be linked to the mailing list footer?

All makes sense... and I know that fedorafaq.org is unofficial... but is there an official one? I mean besides the release notes?

If you notice any issues, feel free to send me an email! :-)

Right. But the point at which people ask the *question* is when mediacheck fails. They've already burned the CDs. It's more useful to tell them how to now mediacheck their CDs than to tell them how to go back and burn a whole new set of CDs. :-) Particularly if they didn't burn them in Linux.
