Dear All,
I would like to enable the mouse middle-button to paste what is selected. It worked fine before, but not now. I do not know whether the cause is that the mouse is a different one or some configuration is missing.
Thanks in advance,
Paulo

If you're using Gnome, then in the mouse settings, you can test it. Middle click on the circle at the bottom and see if there's a message that the middle button was clicked.

Thanks, Samuel. I forgot to mention I am using XFCE.

Ok, then I think since XFCE isn't using Wayland yet, you could run "xev" and see if the middle click event shows up. But other than that, I don't know anything about XFCE mouse configuration.
Another way to test which is probably even easier is to install "evtest". When you run it (as root) without any parameters, it will give you a list of input devices and you can pick your mouse and it will show you the events as they happen.

I adore the primary clipboard! It drives me nuts when I work on a Windows machine as they only support the secondary clipboard
Test 1: highlight some text in a non Wine program
test pasting into a leafpad or gedit or similar by simultaneously pressing both the left and right mouse button at the same time
Test 2: you an have two mice installed at the same time. See if the middle button works on a second mouse

Thanks, ToddAndMargo and Samuel. After having runned the following command
xinput set-button-map 8 1 2 3
the middle-button of my mouse pastes what is selected.
