I've just installed FC3 on hdb1 and I've got XP on hda1. On the first reboot (and a couple that followed) the following comes up on screen and then just sits there:
GRUB Loading stage2...
I've had a look around a few forums and everyone keeps suggesting booting from the second installation disk or typing in this, that or the other. But it tries to load Grub before trying to boot from the CD drive even though I've got the CD drive infront of the HD in the boot order.
I'm an utter rookie with all this, so I have no idea what information is needed to work out what's going on. Be gentle with me...
Thank you.

You pose several questions that need to be separated. First, I assume you are saying that when you boot without a CD in the drive the system gets stopped with the message: GRUB Loading stage2..
Where did you install your grub and how did you do the installation? I hope grub boot code is on /dev/hda (or HD0). Is it? Posting you grub.conf file might be helpful.
Now as you second problem am I correct that you are saying that when you put a boot-able CD like the Fedora CD1 or Fedora Rescue disk in your CD drive your system still goes and tries to boot from the hard drive. Also you are saying that in the BIOS the Boot sequence places the CD before the hard disk in the boot order. I this correct?

I encounter this every 10th installation! This is new to Fedora 3 or maybe FC2 or at least happens more often.
Until now, I did not search for the problem: little time and restarting the automatical kickstart installation solves the problem quite quickly.
Howdy,
I too am having grub problems or rather, grub is having trouble with what I've done.
I just installed a fc3 system on a single drive /dev/hda (80gb hdd). My boot partition is hda1 and is 1gb in size, my root partition is hda2 and is 2gb in size, giving me much room to grow.
After removing the install cd I poked the "reboot" button left by the installer. I got a message "GRUB loading stage2.." message and that's the last I've seen of my system. I took the defaults during the install "questions". Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?
Regards and thanks for your time,
George... :-(
