Hello everybody,
This morning I was working normally on my HP PIV PC with FC4. FC has been
installed and working without trouble for a couple of months. Hardware has
not been modified. I was running KDE and suddenly everything stopped
working.
Then I rebooted the PC and got the following messages:
mkrootdev: label / not found
mount: error 2 mounting ext3
ERROR opening /dev/console !!!!: 2
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 0
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 1
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 2
switchroot: mount failed: 22
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
I am im big trouble trying to recover my own workstation and a lot of
locally archived email messages :-(
I had been googling with any luck. Any suggestions will be highly
appreciated. Pardon my English since it is not my native language.
Are you sure you did not upgrade the kernel someplace along the way and
this was the first reboot? Try the 2.6.12-1.1447 or older kernel. My
boxes here that use SATA all have the same problem. Supposedly upgrading
to the the 2.6.13-166* kernel ( still in testing ) fixes it.
