Has ANYONE had success running a dual boot Fedora2 and WindowsXP system on one hard drive with different partitions?

How many examples do you want? I have 9 machines all but one are dual boot XP and FC2. I have 2 laptops that are dualboot in that manner. I've not a single problem other than with one stupid HP that keeps 'recovering' the MBR when I install GRUB to allow dual boot.

I've been using FC2 and WindowsXP since its release with no problem whatsoever. Maybe this can help you: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19615

We have installed it on hundreds of systems with no problems. However, I use a custom build that contains the latest updates.

I've had no problems whatsoever. However, I did very carefully follow the instructions here first:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-May/msg00908.html
Although problems dual booting from the same drive with different partitions caught some people unawares when FC2 came out they have been very well publicised since, and their workarounds. There is a regular posing to this list entitled
"README: Current Fedora Core 2 Problems & Solutions/Helpful Links"
in which the first issue is
"***WinXP Dual boot problems***"
which also contains the links to the workarounds. This are also detailed on the website www.fedorafaq.org.

I just did it last week, knowing nothing about Linux. I used PartitionMagic by PowerQuest. Runs around $70 but is a necessity if you want to be able to shrink your existing partition that XP is on and then create a new one. I created a second one that FC2 now resides on that is 10G in size.

You don't need to do that just go online and download the first mandrake disk that has a free partition resize utility. Just let it setup your partitions and reboot your system into the fedora installer. On Tue, 2004-08-24 at 19:04, Adam Boettiger wrote:

I used diskdrake or whatever to shrink the XP drive on my laptop. It worked out great and cost only time and a couple of CDRs. Both systems work fine and the 70 bucks saved was nice also.
Having an equivelent on an FC installation disk or utility disk would be great for those that buy new computers and don't want the bother of re-installing XP, instead of just shrinking the disk partition down to size.

You don't even need to do that. Download "System Rescue CD" (http://www.sysresccd.org) and use "qtparted" to repartition.
