Greetings
KPILOT has been a staple app of mine for some time to sync my treo 650 with Kontact. But suddenly is disappeared from the latest KDEPIM-3.5.6 in the last Fedora Core 6 update (accesed via Yum).
can anyone tell me what is going on ? an exhaustive web search (including Fedora forums and mailing lists) has yielded nothing so far.
your help is much appreciated, and very much required. life is tougher without my Treo and Kontact in sync ...
cheers, marcello

A bug? An oversight?
More details would help, $ rpm -q kdelibs kdepim

Turns out kdepim-3.5.6 requires pilot-link-0.12, and FC-6 has (only) pilot-link-0.11.
Grr...

Any reason it canot be upgraded to 0.12? Just curious ...
Sure it *could* be done, but it would be painful. There's lot of existing apps in FC-6 that link against pilot-link-0.11, that would need (at least) rebuilding.

In the gnome-pilot codebase we support both p-l 0.11.8 and 0.12.x. Might be worth mailing the fedora kdepim/kpilot maintainer and request they add backwards compatibility to kpilot if it isn't there already.
Mind you, pilot-link 0.12.x is stable enough now that it could be pushed to fc6 (requires an update of gnome-pilot and evolution). The most recent gp/evolution releases support both 0.11.8 and 0.12.x out of the box.

Thanks for all the notes on this. I just got bit by it as well . While the following is presumably obvious, I'll post it in case is might be useful. I went to the Fedora site and downloaded the older versions of kdepim:
kdepim-3.5.5-0.2.fc6.i386.rpm kdepim-devel-3.5.5-0.2.fc6.i386.rpm kdeaddons-3.5.5-0.1.fc6.i386.rpm
I then removed the above packages from the new updates
rpm -e kdepim kdepim-devel kdeaddons
and installed the older versions.
rpm -ivh kdepim-3.5.5-0.2.fc6.i386.rpm kdepim-devel-3.5.5-0.2.fc6.i386.rpm kdeaddons-3.5.5-0.1.fc6.i386.rpm
I now appear to have kpilot back as part of kontact
I'll just have to be careful about letting pup update kde for a while.

I tried the above but there are way too many dependancies including evolution and related RPM's that I would have to remove. I remember that the older versions of evolution had lots of issues anyway. Is there a way around this? Is there some other way to get Kpilot back? Will it return in FC7?
