I'm having trouble installing a windows app - so I thought I'd start by running winetools. It won't start - yum & smart pm can't find it so I guess it's not there.
So, I've downloaded it and Xdialog again. I've reinstalled Xdialog and upon trying to install winetools I get a message that it can't find Xdialog! Any ideas why?
I can't find any reference to this on google or this list.

Duncan, I think winetools-2.1.1 is an as yet undocumented, different animal than its predecessors. Try entered "wt2" (without the quotes) on a command line.

Should I try and get an older version instead for now?

$ bash: wt2: command not found
Why would one program not be able to find another one? Smart finds it no probs...
further ideas?

How did you install winetools? Since your earlier message noted that Xdialogue could also not be found I was operating on the assumption that you had installed from an rpm. If you installed from a tar ball instead you likely need to create some softlinks as described in the winetools installation instructions.

i downloaded the rpm for fc from the distributors site (http://www.von-thadden.de/Joachim/WineTools/#install)
any reason why that'd be a problem? i did the same for Xdialog - i couldn't find it with yum.

Duncan, My prior comments are all based on an experience yesterday that closely resembled yours. I had used winetools-2.1.0 to setup wine and was having difficulty getting anything to run. Windows install programs appeared to run just fine but then wine could not find them so I decided to wipe out everything I had installed up to that point and start over. A Winetools-2.1.1 rpm had become available in the interim so I used it instead of 2.1.0. with the result that "wt" could not be found.
Looking in /usr/local/winetools and /usr/local/bin, I found files that were not present after installation of 2.1.0. For one thing, /usr/local/winetools contains a tarball. For another, /usr/local/bin contains a file "wt2" instead of the "wt" found after installation of winetools-2.1.0.

Have you tried the wine users list? Joachim von Thadden, winetools' developer, is quite active there. It is the de facto users list for winetools.
I have a non-windows installation of wine and winetools running on FC3. I won't say it has no problems, but it does what I want it to do.
