I am trying to install Fedora on a pentium 5 using (F-7-i386-DVD.iso). All works OK, but I seem to have missed the part where I get to set the root password. My installation seems to have worked OK. I can log on with a user I created during the installation, however, with no root permissions. Is there a default root password that comes with the install?
Thanks in advance.

I don't see how. You *have* to enter one as part of the installation process. It won't proceed until you do. Perhaps you used the same password for both, or slightly mistyped it?
This message has shades of, "how do I hack someone else's box?"

No.
Bootup in single-user mode (hit a key to temporarily edit the GRUB booting parameter when the GRUB screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions, prepend a space and a number one on the end of the kernel line, carry on booting). When done, you're logged in as root without a password. Set a password (read "man password" to work out how).

password. Set a password (read "man password" to work out

s/"man password"/passwd(1)/
Curse those lazy/bad original Unix developers who refused to give commands sensible names (we have no "unmount" or "password" commands, but "umount" and "passwd"). I suppose we're lucky that we have "useradd" and not "usad". ;-\
i knows its probably pretty obvious but im lost. i know the root password but whats the username?

Here is what you have to do. Reboot to the grub kernel choice menu. If you have not commented out hidemenu in grub.conf you will have to hit return on the first screen to see it.
On the line of the kernel hit e to edit the line. It is explained at the bottom of the menu. Then at the end of the kernel line place a 1. Then continue the boot. You will boot into run level 1 where you are root and can change the root passwd with the passwd command.
Thank you to all. Problem fixed.
