problem with Dolphin

Hi, I'm new in this mailing-list. I'm Argentinian, so my English is
not very good.
I have a problem with Dolphin, it doesn't start. Somebody can help me?

Hi Rick:

The result of running "ps ax | grep dbus-daemon" is the following:

2076 ?        Ss     0:04 dbus-daemon --system
2925 ?        Ss     0:00 /bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 7
--print-address 9 --session

In Service Configuration, I can see that the "messagebus" service is
enabled in runlevels 3, 4, 5, and it is running.
(The command "service" is not in my Fedora 9).
I have the same problem with Konqueror also...so I have any file browser now!

Are you sure the message bus is running?  Try running

	ps ax | grep dbus-daemon

and see if you get a line back that looks like:

	2920 ?        Ssl    0:00 dbus-daemon --system

(the "2920" will probably be different for you).  If you don't, try
running

	service messagebus start

as the root user and try the "ps" command again.  If you get the
"dbus-daemon" line, try Dolphin again.  If it works, make sure you
run

	chkconfig --level 2345 messagebus on

as the root user so dbus (message bus) starts in all run levels.

I thought so from the man page but as you note below it will give 
results sometimes anyway which confused me

Yes thank you! I knew it had to be something simple and of course it is!!

[x33@localhost ~]$ rpm -qf /usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4
  kdelibs-4.0.4-4.fc9.x86_64
  [x33@localhost ~]$ rpm -qf /usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4.0.4
  kdelibs-4.0.4-4.fc9.x86_64

64 bit version of kdelibs , i assumed it would have listed these earlier 
because it listed the 386 version as providing these and it should have 
listed the 64 bit version too, at least by my reckoning at the time,

grub.conf (menu.1st) file doesn't appear to belong to anything.  I
haven't worked that whys and wherefores, but perhaps files generated by
installing a RPM, rather than extracted from a RPM, don't count?

To find what package provided a particular file, there's "rpm -qf".

e.g. rpm -qf /full/path/to/the/file/you/want/to/know/about

Does that query format give you an answer?

Well I wasn't sure how to answer your question but I smelled a learning 
opportunity so here is what I have done. Running a terminal as a regular 
user :

  [x33@localhost ~]$ locate libnepomuk.so.4
/usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4
/usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4.0.4

[x33@localhost ~]$ file /usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4
/usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4: symbolic link to `libnepomuk.so.4.0.4'

It appears to point to a slightly different version of the file on my 
system than on yours. I feel like there are a couple of possibilities 
here : 1. Your running 386 system and I am on a x64 so that is why the 
versions are slightly different....2. Your symlink is pointing to the 
wrong file, maybe you missed an update or excluded a package from being 
updated and this resulted in breakage

There are perhaps other possibilities but you said it was working until 
last week and a.) this is all that occurs to me at this moment in time, 
i may get another idea later, i will let you know if so b.) these seem 
to me the most likely possibilities

Wait there is one more thing to do now that I think of it :

[x33@localhost ~]$ rpm --query --whatprovides libnepomuk.so.4
no package provides libnepomuk.so.4
[x33@localhost ~]$ rpm --query --whatprovides libnepomuk.so.4.0.4
no package provides libnepomuk.so.4.0.4

Color me confused here but then I did this :

[x33@localhost ~]$ file /usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4.0.4
/usr/lib64/libnepomuk.so.4.0.4: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, 
version 1 (SYSV), stripped

[x33@localhost ~]$ repoquery --whatprovides libnepomuk.so.4
kdelibs-6:4.0.3-7.fc9.i386
kdelibs-6:4.0.4-4.fc9.i386

[x33@localhost ~]$ repoquery --whatprovides libnepomuk.so.4.0.4
[x33@localhost ~]$

So I am more confused now than before but its not the first time so i 
did this:

[x33@localhost ~]$ rpm -V kdelibs-6:4.0.3-7.fc9.i386
package kdelibs-6:4.0.3-7.fc9.i386 is not installed
[x33@localhost ~]$ rpm -V kdelibs-6:4.0.4-4.fc9.i386
package kdelibs-6:4.0.4-4.fc9.i386 is not installed

This has not alleviated my confusion but its not surprising considering 
that my rpm query told me that nothing provides the two libnepomuk files 
in question, though i am still confused because they are obviously 
present. So at this point I feel like I am missing  something obvious or 
simple.....I am on a 64bit system so maybe this is biting me somehow but 
I don't see it. Well the first file libnepomuk.so.4 is a symlink so 
maybe nothing provides the symlink but its created by another file to 
satisfy a dependency? I think its a good guess but that's all it is , in 
any case I feel like something should provide libnepomuk.so.4.0.4 but 
apparently not because a query tells me that nothing does so I don't 
know what to tell you at this point.Now maybe this file is part of or 
provided by something else but not listed by its name or linked to 
another file name?. I don't have any idea at this point. Try doing what 
I have done and see what results you get, I'd like to know since it 
might clear up some of these ?'s I have. I can tell you that running : 
"dolphin" command has the desired effect of running dolphin.

I don't think there is any thing to do at this point since KDE4 is a 
work in progress.
KDE 4.1 should be out in a couple of months and that may resolve your 
issue, starting Dolphin works for me so if previous suggestions don't 
work then I don't really know what to tell you. Are you running the 
nvidia driver?what video driver are you running? have you looked through 
dmesg? have you checked for possible SELinux denials in the logs? There 
is also the following in your output :

Have you checked the integrity of this libnepomuk.so.4 file or package?
Did you upgrade to f9?how did you do the upgrade? or was it a fresh install?

The problem seems to be a library mismatch with kdelibs, which

/usr/lib/libnepomuk.so.4

  is a part of.

perhaps a rebuild of Dolphin is required after an upgrade of KDE?

Make sure you refer to the reply from Tim, he pointed out my errors in 
the use of the rpm command. I don't have a 386 install of f9 anymore 
maybe someone who does can can collaborate your findings in regards to 
which file the symlink of libnepomuk.so.4 should point to, as mentioned 
before mine points to a slightly different version of the file than 
yours but the difference may have something to do with 32bit vs 64bit 
install of f9,  you should be able to, at least, verify the kdelibs 
package that includes the libnepomuk.so.4 file and the file it points too.

refer his reply for more detail)

Hi Max!

I upgraded from F6 to F9 from the DVD.
Dolphin and Konqueror worked well untill last week.
I don´t know what video drivers I´m running, but I will check it.
I saw that /usr/lib/libnepomuk.so.4 is a link to
/usr/lib/libnepomuk.so.4.0.1...is that right?
How can I check the integrity of libnepomuk.so.4?
