Hello List,
I have a Dell Inspiron 510m and I'm running Fedora Core 3.
[root@Agila ~]# uname -sr Linux 2.6.10-1.766_FC3
Using /sbin/lspci it gives me this information regarding my NIC:
[root@Agila ~]# /sbin/lspci ----- 01:03.0 Network controller: Intel Corp. PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04) 01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB PRO/100 VE (MOB) Ethernet Controller (rev 81)
But then when I reload my network; it gives me this error message:
[root@Agila ~]# /etc/init.d/network restart Shutting down interface eth0: [ OK ] Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ] Setting network parameters: [ OK ] Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ] Bringing up interface eth0: [ OK ] Bringing up interface eth1: ipw2100 device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization. [FAILED]
How to make my eth1 (wireless interface) working?
Please help as wireless connection is my only possible network connection in my house.
Thanks in advance.

Run 'system-config-network' and setup 'eth1' as wireless - and set all the correct wireless paramaters for your network.

Thanks once again Satish.
I did "system-config-network" from my terminal; then a Network Configuration shows. I got three options: Ethernet Modem ISDN
What I will select?
Please bear with me.
Thanks a lot.

Do I need to download any other firmware? What is the command to avoid this error:

Thanks once again.

Hmm. First you should see 'eth0' & 'eth1' in the 'Devices' tab.
- select - 'eth1' and hit delete - next click 'new' - here you should see the option 'wireless connection' - on clicking 'forward' - you should see the 'intel wireless - eth1' listed

Ah.. you need the firmware in /lib/firmware. http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/firmware.php

Did you download/install the firmware in /lib/firmware - as mentioned in the previous mail?

Does the firmware upgrade effect the card from working in windows????? Thanks Thom
Hi no1biscuit,
no this firmware does not affect the Wireless Card in Windows. The firmware is not permanentely written to the card.
I'm using it myself on a Dell 510m with both Fedora Core 3 and Windows XP. :-)
