Dear all,
I've been having problems with the contents of files simply disappearing.
I am running fedora core 1, AMD64 version. I have a Western Digital 250GB USB 2.0 drive attached to the system onto to which I often download video files.
Just this morning I had finished a particularly long download to this drive. I moved the files over to another directory on the same drive. I've been watching these files all morning until now, when I tried to watch the next in the series, the contents of all these files was suddenly 0 (except the one I was just watching).
This has happened before, but I took it for a fluke. I've had trouble with this system before, but this seems very unusual.
If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks,
Eitan

Check if your USB enclosure uses the Genesys Logic, Inc. Chipset. That chipset is a bit buggy and cannot handle transfers with sector sizes of 120 Kb (which is default in FC1) Changing that size to 64 KB resolves the problem. To accomplish this you need to edit the kernel source code and recompile the kernel. I have filed this with Bugzilla and it has been changed in FC2. Read my Bugzilla report here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=122522
Hope that helps.

This bug report is marked closed with a worksforme. Does this need to be refiled?
I just ran across someone in #fedora who seems to be having what appears to be a related problem using kernel 2.6.6-1.435.2.3 on fc2 with the ohci-usb module but not with ehci-usb
lsusb gives: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 05e3:0702 Genesys Logic, Inc. USB 2.0 IDE Adapter
