Hi all,
I'm running f14-x86_64 but have a need for a f14.i686 kernel package (kernel-2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686). I'd also like to unpack it but not into its default locations.
That leaves me with two questions:
How do I download it without installing it? How do I unpack it into a safe location (such as /test)?
Been fiddling with yum and had no luck.
TIA, Mike Wright

# yumdownloader kernel-<version>-<release>.i686

yum --downloadonly
And set the flag in yum.conf to keep things in the cache after use. Don't forget to manually clear the cache occasionally (yum clean packages).

Seems like a lot more work than my way :)
First you'll have to install the downloadonly yum plugin, then you have to change your config, and then dig the file out of the cache...
yumdownloader takes care of all that for you and dumps the rpm in the current directory.

Additionally, if you just want the latest one and don't want to look up versions:
setarch i686 yumdownloader kernel
