With an up to date FC5 running in a 386 machine using the kernel from the original distribution ( kernel-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 ) I was using MS Word XP and MS Excel XP under Crossover Office from codeweavers without problems.
Today after the upgrade to kernel kernel-2.6.16-1.2080_FC5, each time Word or Excel loaded once the main window filled there was an error window saying that the application had an error, and inviting via a checkbox to save and restart.
This window re-appeared as soon as the application restarted, and the application had to be killed.
Reverting to the original kernel allowed these applications to run normally again.
Anyone else having these problems ?
I also put a ticket into the CXO site at
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=81133;list=6; ticket_level=2

Word, Excel and Access all function fine in my FC4 upgraded to FC5 system, using Crossover Office 5.0 and with the new 2080_FC5 kernel.

Hi Gerry
I am running CrossoverPro 5.1 if that makes any difference ....
Did you do an upgrade install or a clean install ? Did you run the Crossover install again once FC5 was running to regenerte the menus. I am also using KDE and not Gnome - again all these small differences may matter ?

I did an upgrade of FC4 to FC5 using the downloaded DVD. I also had a separate install of FC5T3 prior to release that I had successfully used Crossover 5.0 on.
I did not run the Crossover install again. The menus survived the upgrade. I am using Gnome, but after writing this, I'll switch to KDE and see if it works there. Unfortunately my support on Crossover office expired and I can't upgrade to 5.1 without a new fee. Since 5.0 seems to be doing what I need, I'll wait until more development there makes it more worthwhile to upgrade.

The menus are still in KDE and the apps work fine there too. Sorry this isn't much help, but hopefully the codeweavers team can help get your problem solved.

Thanks
The menu issue is not the main problem - the windows apps menus were there, but the Crossover menu was not - but that is easy to remedy - the key problem was that with the updated kernel the apps would not run. That is the critical matter.
I know that the change from 2.6.15 to 2.6.16 was a big rebase so I guess there are bugs arising from that.
Hopefully this will be tested and others may see the same bug.

With the latest kernel that came in last night (kernel-smp-2.6.16-1.2122_FC5) the residual problems that I had with my smp machine being unable to run Office XP in Crossover finally resolved, and all machines in which I am running Office XP now work without problems. The only change I needed was the replacement wine-preloader file available from the codeweavers site - see the ticket quoted above.
