I just installed Fedora 28 Workstation on my HP EliteBook 8540w
laptop and it seems to work fine except the fact that the Laptop's Keyboard seems to
be inactive (deactivated/disabled?). External keyboard works just fine.
The problem occured at the first boot (Gnome initial setup). I had to use an rxternal
keyboard to finish the setup. Checked the settings. Didn't find something to lead me
to a solution or an explanation.
I have an older Elitebook. I assume yours also can turn the screen
around into tablet mode? If so, look in /proc/bus/input/devices and
find the WMI input device. Get the event device number, in my case it's
event13. Install the "evtest" package and run "evtest
/dev/input/event13" (replace with your event number). Look for this:
Event type 5 (EV_SW)
Event code 1 (SW_TABLET_MODE) state 0
Does yours show state 0 or 1? Switch to tablet mode and back and see if
the switch changes state. Press ctrl-C to stop.
Do the special keys work, like the volume or brightness keys? If you
switch to a console using CTRL-ALT-F3, can you type there? Are there
any relevant messages in the log if you run "journalctl -b" (as root)?
Does the touchpad work?
