Can I start the cd live in text mode ?
Or kill the graphic mode after booting normally ?

Open up a terminal and type 'init 3'

Edit the kernel line in grub, add " single", if you want a init 1
equivalence.

Or, "init=3" to get a complete CLI boot, which is probably what Mr. 
Portillo is looking for.
