Hi All,
If I install a second DE (Desktop Environment), do I need to tell lightdm tht I want a logon prompt to choose which one I want to start?
Many thanks, -T

You can learn quite a bit by creating a VM and then trying things out there before you change your actual system.
But, of course, there will be an item added somewhere on the login screen to select the session you you want.
Every DM is a bit different.
GDM shows a gear in the lower right to select the session. Gear appears when the password promt is present. SDDM has a drop-down selection in the lower left.

Hi Ed,
I took your advice and loaded dual Xfce and MATE onto a qemu-kvm virtual machine.
The greater asking for your password has an icon in the upper right for your Desktop Environment: a rat for Xfce and a circle with an arrow for Mate.
Thank you!

And if you have lightdm set to autolog you in, light dm will start the last selected desktop. To change the selection, log out and select the other DE. Next reboot will autolog into it
