FC 3 isn't on topic here. This list is for official releases only and
there is a fedora-testing list for release candidates (testing) which is what FC 3 is until it is released.
If this list is to be about only FC2 and neither FC1 or FC3 beta, the list would be FC2 or called current release something. The title says for users of Fedora Core Releases. FC3T1 has been released to the wild now. (This is subjective)
since FC-1 is still supported, fedora-list would still be the appropriate place. FC-3 is in testing phase, and it would seem relevant to have discussions regarding FC-3 in fedora-test-list.
But hey, that's my opinion and others are free to disagree. I would suspect that I would have the general consensus.

I disagree, and I feel free to do so.
With eighteen lists to choose from, it's not always easy to know which one is canonically "right" for one's question, or which one has enough knowledgeable readership to answer one's question. The general list is the most general, and for many people might seem the best for getting a useful response.
I agree with those who welcome all questions. If something seems "off-topic" we can gently suggest moving a thread to the appropriate list, but the general list seems to me (IMNHO) tha natural place to begin for any Fedora-related matter. Consensus or not, and I'd be careful about claiming to speak for any group, this is right. Let's welcome everyone here, and triage them to other lists if the topic merits it.

no, and as the one who first asked about FC3 t1 on this list, i sincerely regret having started this thread in the wrong place. the only reason i did it was that i actually did post first to the test list, didn't see a reply (or any traffic whatever) for a bit of time, so i tried the general list as plan B. mea culpa.
there is already increasing traffic on the test list, bug reports, that sort of thing. so if you have any FC test release-related postings to make, please, take them to the test list.

p.s. i do agree that it would be nice to refine the mailing lists, in that there should be separate mailing lists for each official release of FC. having all of that lumped into a single FC general list is, i think, overly messy.

Why?
Yes, this list is high volume. Yes, sometimes it is hard to follow.
OTOH, most questions are Linux related and not specific to a single release. Using separate lists would greatly reduce the numbers of assistants who can answer questions and/or may mean no one is available to help if the question is asked on a single list.
It is both educational for me and gives me an opportunity to help by being a single list. If it were multiple lists I would not participate in all because of time constraints and the version I use. A loss to me, and likely a loss to others as well.

Hear hear!
The worst thing is, it was discussed that FC2 questions should probably start with a [FC2] or similar in the subject line. And all though the filters I have here at my mail client does sort around 70 odd mails into a FC2 folder for me by people doing the right thing every day, half of the unsorted stuff still contains FC2 questions which are very FC2 specific.
I'm with you on this on Robert.
