After updating (yum-updatesd) the Beryl to the following version, when Beryl is subsequently started i get the splash screen (which mentions that 0.20 beta 2 instead) and a white screen. That is it. It was working fine before the update. BTW, i run the latest nVidia (livna) driver.

Does glxgears work? Does glxinfo report "direct rendering: Yes"?

Yes and Yes.
# glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: Yes
It was working before the update.

Beryl's --use-copy option fixed it.
