(f30 -> f31; gnome)
I tried to upgrade my system from f30 to f31 as per the instructions. I entered "dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=31" Failed. The results are in the first attachment (problem1.txt).
As the dnf output suggested, I tried "dnf system-upgrade download --skip-broken --refresh --releasever=31" Failed. The results are in the second attachment (problem2.txt).
As the instructions suggested, I tried "dnf system-upgrade download --skip-broken --refresh --releasever=31 --best" Failed. The results are in the third attachment (problem3.txt).
As both the dnf output and the instructions suggested, I tried "dnf system-upgrade download --skip-broken --refresh --releasever=31 --best --allowerasing" Failed. The results are in the fourth attachment (problem4.txt).
I'm stuck. How do I get this upgrade to work?

Perhaps some packages were dropped in f31? A lot of python packages were moved from Python 2 to Python 3. Some may not be upgrading properly or pre retired.
I would try two things:
1. Do a "dnf distro-sync" to see if you have anything weird going on (manually installed RPMs, etc).
If it says everything is fine the you need to work the problems 1 at a time. The first could be causing the rest so start with it.
If you do "dnf erase python2-libmodulemd" will anything important removed with it?
Thanks, Richard

Unfortunately it looks like that package is needed to deal with modules, but why it let you erase the package without pulling in whatever's depending on it I don't know. For now I think you need to reinstall it.
Or (and this is a huge a$$ guess) maybe installing the python3 version will work.
dnf install python3-libmodulemd

It looks like you are having module problems. I don't know if this will help, but while testing upgrade from F31 to F32 to look for issues, we were advised to run dnf module reset '*' to make modules behave before running the upgrade. You could try that.

all goes well, after a few hours, I'll update this thread.
Basically, the upgrade succeeded. Thank-you, Stan, for the key step.
But there are some remaining issues. The xeyes now have ghosts of the top parts of other windows in the background between the xeyes border and the eyes themselves. See a screen capture here: "https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z9gwgpHzddqinxGVa9QMhbpMvVjH1Hn6/view?usp=s...". Furthermore, the xeyes are strobing? flashing? blinking? flickering? (I'm not sure what the best word is) at a rather rapid but variable rate, and they're "double" (as if I'm seeing double). I'm in f31, and I'm using Gnome. How do I fix this?
There are other issues, but let's address them one at a time.

I tend to `dnf erase` anything that complains and reinstall it after the upgrade. So I wonder if you can do that with gimp and get it going.
I was starting to think the same thing. Also you might as well re-erase the python2-libmodulemd since it wasn't causing the gimp issue and was a problem with the upgrade to begin with.
Thanks, Richard

I really thought that would make a difference. It didn't. A light bulb came on over my head. I tried "rpm --rebuilddb", and then tried the upgrade. Still no difference. I guess that light bulb was a fake. Now I'm a lot more concerned.
