Everyone,
I am having difficulty printing to remote printers using cups from within openoffice on FC6. I have FC4 and FC5 systems on the same remote stations and they work fine. Also other software on the FC6 machine like evolution works fine with remote printing. Printing locally (on the same subnet) on this FC6 machine also works fine.
When trying to print remotely via openoffice on this FC6 machine the print menu displays all of the local as well as the remote printers. If a local printer is picked the print tab button is active. If a remote printer is picked the print tab button is inactive which prevents printing.
abiword can be used to print the document locally or remotely on this FC6 machine.
I have been waiting for this to be fixed, but have not entered a bug report. Thought I would ask here first.

Are those remote printers raw queues (i.e. no PPD)?
Tim.
All of them are different types of PCL/Postscript printers HP8150N's or Toshiab E35, E45 copier/printers. I set up with the standard Fedora cups choices related to pcl printer types. I did not use any custom PPD's

Tim,
I did a search on your name within this list and found an answer within one of your previous postings..... Sorry I missed the note before Thank you!!!
Here is the bug.... following the suggested change below fixed my problem too.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=213119
If you use tools->options->openoffice.org->options and toggle on the checkbox "use openoffice.org dialog" and then use file->print you will see the "traditional" print dialog, does that dialog work instead ?

We need a little more clarification. That is , the definition of locally and remotely. Is there a printer attached directly to the FC6 machine? Can other machines on the subnet print to it? Is remote printing to a printer on a different subnet or to a printer not attached to the machine on the same subnet? -- ======================================================================= To stay youthful, stay useful. ======================================================================= Aaron Konstam telephone: (210) 656-0355 e-mail: akonstam@sbcglobal.net

Aaron,
Thanks for your help. The problem was related to a bug already reported:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=213119
To answer your questions.
I have no printer connected to the designated FC6 machine in question.
Yes, other machines on the same subnet can print to the printers on the same subnet as well as remote subnets.
Yes remote printing to a different subnet works fine on all PC's within the specified subnet.
The problem was not related to cups or the different subnets of each network it was related to openoffice. The following change, documented in the above bug, fixed the problem.
"If you use tools->options->openoffice.org->options and toggle on the checkbox "use openoffice.org dialog" and then use file->print you will see the "traditional" print dialog"
When I set openoffice to use the "traditional" print dialog remote printing via cups worked normally within openoffice.
