Toslink Setup

I have a Chaintech AV710 (a.k.a. "Multimedia audio controller: VIA
Technologies Inc. VT1720/24 [Envy24PT/HT] PCI Multi-Channel Audio
Controller (rev 01)" in lspci).

Is there a way to make it output on Toslink by default?  Do I have to
find some obscure device ID and configure every audio application
individually?
