When did this start happening and is there a way to disable it? Where are those ' coming from?
[sdstern@sds-desk download]$ touch "file with blank" [sdstern@sds-desk download]$ ls 'file with blank' [sdstern@sds-desk download]$

I noticed that on upgrading to F24. It appears to be related to the ls option "-Q" (man ls) but I don't see why it's on by default. Note that it doesn't happen when the output is piped to another program.

I don't think it is related to Q since specifying that gives you double-quotes while not specifying gets you a single-quote. Not seeing a way to disable it....but I personally won't be disabling it as I've found it useful when needing to copy/paste.

I hadn't noticed this prior to F24 so I can't guarantee that it is occurring for the first time in F24. The quotes are also added for directories with embedded blanks as well. I am assuming it is something being added by ls itself as it doesn't happen with Dolphin. I would assume it is done to show that what is being shown is a single file name rather than multiple files, whereas with dolphin it is obvious it is a single name with the way dolphin displays names.

I already have an 'ls' alias with the --color=none option, after some experimentation, I can see I need to add the --quoting-style=literal option as well.
(Someday I'm going to snap and start hitting "helpful" programmers over the head with a rubber chicken :-).
