in trying to fathom my loss of audio out, i keep seeing reference to files in /etc/pipewire/ where my install has nothing!
What am I missing? thx!

In the very top of /usr/share/pipewire/pipewire.conf:
# Daemon config file for PipeWire version "0.3.34" # # # Copy and edit this file in /etc/pipewire for systemwide changes # or in ~/.config/pipewire for local changes.
So it's using a fairly common standard these days, having packaged settings in /usr/share/$SOFTWARE and local config changes in /etc/$SOFTWARE and in ~/.config/$SOFTWARE for per-user settings.

Yes, I can, because most users will never need that. If everybody needed that to get pipewire working, it would have been a showstopper bug and fixed before the package was released.

Tish happens. Seriously, you might want to submit a bugzilla against pipewire, listing the workaround so that the devs will know what it is that doesn't always work right because if nobody reports it, it can't get fixed.

Maybe try booting from the f34 workstation live image and see if it can get sound out of the box. If it can, something was confused on your installation (which can certainly happen on an upgrade versus a clean install).

i always clean install to avoid a lot of this too. its got audio showing up, just not out loud yet.
i think i'll beat on this a bit and see if i can fix it; it'd be nice to 'give back useful info if i can'...

booting a live image Did make music. further it saw the output, but no
input. so looks like enumeration is weak?
any pointer to where in /usr/share/sound config enumeration starts? ? ;)

If it said "into" instead of "in" it might be less confusing.
