I need to add a HP LaserJet that is on my network. However, I don't know what type of queue I should use. I already tried CUPS, LPD, and others types but none worked.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If it has a network cable plugged directly into it, then use the JetDirect option. You'll need to know it's IP address or hostname on your network.

Choosing LPD, then giving the hostname of the printer and the queue name. then choose the model Of HP Laserjet you have, and should work. We have several HP Laserjets and they seem to work ok.
It doesn't work.
Name of queue is lp Queue type is LPD Server is correct and connected. Queue is lp Printer model is correct and driver is Postscript
Printer configuration shows it as connected.
I already tried different drivers and queue types. Nothing works. I have Windows and Unix systems using this printer without a problem.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Martin

Did you try to print a test page? If so, what happens?
What kind of network? (domain or workgroup?)
How is printer connected to network? (does it have its own IP or through a computer?)
Is there a print server?
Program versions?
Fedora version?
KDE or Gnome?
I',m using two printers connected to a Netgear PS110 (print server). Brother HL1440 & Epson Photo Stylus 2200. Both are working fine in both linux (FC3) and winblows (XP & 2000 pro). Queue type is LPD, queue name is P1(laseer) or P2(ink jet), server is 192.168.0.70.
Give us more info so we can help.
Tom

I'm using FC2. The printer is HP LaserJet 4050 N.
As I said before, I already tried other drivers: hpijs, hpijs-rss, lj5gray, ljjet4
Yes of couse I tried the test page. As a matter of fact, that is all I'm trying right now. I don't want to test it using firefox or other application becuase that could be a problem in the application.
When I try the print test nothing happens.
We access this printer through a server, and I can ping it by IP or name.
It is fustraiting how an easy task becomes a pain in the ass. I guess I will have to configure my syslog.conf to debug mode to get more info.
Thanks for your help. If you can think of anything that might help me let me know.

If you access the printer through a server (i.e., you send the print job to machine B which actually sends the print job to the printer) that changes everything. At the point you get to choose a printer don't do that. Instead of going to the list of printers just identify it as a Postscript printer and it should print. That is what we had to do. If we didn't we had the same problem you had.
Thank Aaron, that helped me to make it work.
I also had to change the queue name from 'lp' to the name of the printer. I thought that wasn't important since I had already specified the server name.
