Hi community,
I'm using MATE on my Fedora 31 system and suddenly files in ~/Desktop do not show up on the desktop.
What could be the reason and how to fix it?

Yes.
So, the newly created launcher is shown on the desktop and a new file has been created in ~/Desktop?
If that is the case, then I'd check the file permissions and ownership to see if the new and old files in that directory match.

If I create a 0 length file with that name it does show on the desktop. The interesting thing about your ls output is the lack of a "." in the permissions. The lack of a "." seems to indicate a lack of an selinux context. Does this look similar to your system?

Maybe pressing F5 would have helped (focus being set to the desktop first). Another reason why a .desktop could not show is if the command it refers to is not accessible (see the exec= and tryexec= lines).
