browser virus: how to get rid of them?

Hi,
A friend got suddenly redirected to mcpl.xyz website for all of its
searches on firefox. Anyone knows how to get rid of this malware?

Install clamscan and freshclam.  Then ... sudo freshclam to update the 
virus patterns.  Under /home/user create a virus folder for isolation of 
viruses.  You might put something in /tmp. Maybe.  Then...

sudo clamscan -r --move=/home/user/clamscan_virus_folder /home/user
