I just bought a PCHIPS M863G MB
VERY low end
FC $ install fails at the same point every time, Kernal panic cant find bootFS mount
Mandiva LE and Suse9.3 however both install just fine.
Anyone have any ideas?
I know this is bottom of the line MB, but that's what made it so perfect for my uses

I'm not sure it'll work, but try this: When the first FC4 prompt appear, type "blah" and then enter; an error will be display. Now just type enter and proceed normally (hopefully).

mplayer/xine will do the job. You'll might need win32 codecs to open certain WMP/Windows only streams. Freshrpms have both Xine, mplayer and win32 codecs RPMs.

In most cases, codecs are software pieces that take a video/audio stream, and create the output audio/video out of it. In short, if you want to play a media player stream you need the appropriate software library to decompress it and turn it back into the original video/audio.

A technical question: what are codecs? --Jerry

Encoders and decoders for external data types (though often they're just a one-way decoder). Typically, used to convert some foreign format into the way the system natively handles data.
e.g. To play MPEGs, you use a decoder to extra the data from the MPEG, and then you play that data.

coders/decoders. In other words, a software library that can understand a particular (usually compressed or encrypted) format. Without the right codec, data is inaccessible to your programs.

Very soon, you'll be able to use the first flash media server open-source, red5 (www.osflash.org/red5) . As you may know, flash plugin is really ubiquous.
This mean you can encode any video with ffmpeg to .flv and stream to someone flash player.

I have mplayer installed, but that I want is to record a video stream into a single file to my pc, like GetASFStream or WM Recorder for windows.
Can I do that whit mplayer, I don't see how.

mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile blah.wmv <url>
man mplayer and search for dumpstream.
