Probably because my mail-client adds (if not present) "(fedora)" to the subject. Its makes it easy for me to sort them out.

No, it's because your mail client is *broken* and doesn't put the reply headers in. Every time you reply to an email, you start a new thread. If you want to sort them out, use a filter and put them in a separate folder.

Threading is not done by matching the Subject line but by certain headers in the mail. Your mail client seems to be broken (or your mail service is filtering those headers).

It's really not a good idea to go changing the subject lines of emails, especially to a mailing list, unless you are intending to branch off a thread.
i.e. Making something not quite related to the origins of the thread, yet still a follow-on of the prior message.
Threading headers co-relate one message with another, but changing the subject line indicates a reason not to thread a message in with everything else.
