Can't play Midi music.

FC6,
Sound card is detected and I get sound, but I can't play  midi music.
went into Control Panel and midi player has alsa as default player.
Hardware is set to Autodetect .

Try installing Timidity.  It has its own soundbanks, which cuts out a lot of 
problems.

Thanks Anne. I already had it installed and didn't even  realize it.

That did a great job, does Timidity have a GUi??

Yes, Timidity takes care of the problems.  I set it up to start automatically 
when I log in, and then I pointed my midi players at it.
