Today I tried to update all my FC machines and on all of them I had the same problem:
yum update Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Server: DCC Yum Repository - 1 - i386 - core Server: DCC Yum Repository - 1 - i386 - testing Server: DCC Yum Repository - 1 - i386 - updates Server: Fedora Linux 1 - i386 - freshrpms Finding updated packages Downloading needed headers Resolving dependencies ....identical dependency loop exceeded package xmms-mp3 needs xmms = 1:1.2.8 (not provided)
The three first repositories are local repos I made by using rsync on one of the official mirrors. I tried adding livna.org also , but it didnt help either... Right now I have these packages: xmms-mp3-1.2.8-3.2.fr xmms-1.2.8-3.p xmms-skins-1.2.8-3.p
Is there a way to fix this? It looks like it's trying to install xmms 1.2.9 from the testing repository.. Is there a way to configure yum so it doesnt tries to update xmms?

You can configure /etc/yum.conf to ignore xmms and its related items with:
exclude=xmms*

Get the xmms-mp3-1.2.9 from freshrpms: http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/testing/1/xmms/xmms-mp3-...

You could use "exclude" in the yum.conf. man yum.conf

Did you do a yum-arch on the directories in your local repository?
If you did, post your yum.conf file, so we might be able to see the problem.

No , I didnt.. I'm doing a rsync of everything , except development , isos and x86_64 ... My repository tree has all the headers that the main mirrors have... Is it necessary to run yum-arch , even when I'm in sync with the main mirrors (including headers)? I didnt do this yet and it worked for almost two weeks...

Slightly different here.
so remove the third party package and the problem will go away...
either that or add a yum repository that contains the new one... the freshrpms.net one does...

Dont know why yum didnt want to install xmms-1.2.9... I've downloaded the rpms and installed them.. thanks guys..

I'm concerned that adding a lot of third party repositories to my yum.conf will lead to the fedora equivalent of "dll hell", so I'm going to stick to the yum.conf at the UFAQ for now.
I'm guessing the UFAQ yum.conf and/or the livna package requirements are ginked up somehow.
If this is the case, it will stabilize sooner or later.
Thanks, John
