Hi! I've googled and check the archives a little, but found not much of use.
I can't get my USB2 memory stick to mount. This is about the only useful kind of info I can get out of dmesg.
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
My system is 2.6.10-1.741_FC3smp Pentium 4. Any thoughts/comments appreciated.
Regards,
Pete.

Pete:
You are attempting to mount a USB 2 device on a USB 1.1 connection. If you are trying to use it on a USB 2 connection, try modprobe ehci-hcd as root. If you cannot get ehci-hcd to work, then try to log it at bugzilla.redhat.com

When I got this error - I needed a new 'system board' for my Thinkpad. You can boot to WinXP - and see if it works in usb-2 mode. [I got errors from winxp as well]
Workarround is to disable usb-2 [and use only usb-1]
i.e 'modprobe -r ehci_hcd'

Satish,
I bought an ADS Tech USB Turbo 2.0 cardbus adapter for my ThinkPad to give it two USB2.0 ports. It works fine under FC3, but can't draw enough power from the cardbus interface to drive two thumb drives at the same time. A minor inconvenience cost for a major performance improvement.

What kind of stick?
One of the people I work with has a stick that I cannot mount. It needs a different filesystem (from the manufacturers WWW site) before it can be used in Linux.

I've got the same problem "sometime" (since kernel 2.6.10).
Un-plug and re-plug (2 to 10 times) can solve the problem (yes i know this is very strange..)
Today, with new kernel-2.6.10-1.766, i've try 2 times and have no problem (i don't say that the problem is solved but... hopes...)

try this: echo -n "Y" > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/old_scheme_first echo -n "Y" > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/use_both_schemes
and then plug your usbpen.
