Hi,
I got this message on Evolution this morning:
Failed to login to the server: Daily Limit Exceeded. The quota will be reset at midnight Pacific Time (PT). You may monitor your quota usage and adjust limits in the API Console: https://console.developers.google .com/apis/api/caldav/quotas?project=923794261470
It's the first time I see it, does it applies to gnome project? Is there anything to do about that (except waiting ;))?
Best regards, Alexis Jeandet.

Are you using Evolution, or do any of the Evolution components running such as the calendar or contacts processes? There seems to be a problem with recent versions. See the Evolution list.

Yes I use Evolution, indeed I forget to mention that this message came from Evolution GUI. Thanks for the hint.

Sorry, I see you did mention Evolution. There is a possibly related thread at:

Google is actively trying to discourage IMAP use. I have heard reports that they deliberately have it fail randomly to aid in this.
We have also seen the daily limit problem. In one case, we could find no reason why this was happening to one of our users, and it kept up for a couple of days before it stopped happening without us or the user having done a thing. In another case, the user did have an Android phone enabled to access the Google account via IMAP, and when she turned that off, the limit issue went away. (On phones, there is really no reason to use an IMAP client, since there are Gmail-specific apps that generally work quite well).

What evidence do you have for this?

The problem being reported (and which I have also seen) is not with IMAP but with CalDav. Google rate-limits queries to their CalDav service and for some reason Evolution is exceeding the limit. See https ://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1346228

I didn't say I had any hard evidence, I said "I have heard reports". I am not accusing Google of any criminal activity here.
Google *Is* trying to discourage use of IMAP. They want everyone to use their API's (via the web interface or a Gmail-specific app). Their tech support people have told us this much. Whether they are actually causing failures to discourage IMAP use is, of course, pure speculation. All I can say there is that there are people who believe they are doing this based on their own tests. Anecdotal evidence only. Take it for what it's worth.

Sorry, that's my bad for misreading the original post. So this side thread is largely irrelevant to the OP.
See https ://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1346228
Thank you for that; I learned something useful by reading through that. I was curious because I have what may be a related issue in that, periodically, Evolution starts putting up popup windows for every *#(@(*! Google calendar in my list, asking for the password. I wish I knew how to turn that off. I don't use Evolution to access my calendars, I only use it for IMAP. Unfortunately the one thing Google still doesn't provide is a decent interface to PGP for reading encrypted e-mail; I still have to use IMAP for that. This is annoying enough to make me consider trying other IMAP clients, but Evolution does have a nice easy to use interface for reading and sending PGP-encrypted mail.

I suggest you ask on the Evolution list, which generally has more useful feedback on Evo matters than the Users list (and is not limited to Fedora). Remember to state your version of Evo (Help->About).

Just to follow up on this, the Google Developer's documentation on the Gmail API (https://developers.google.com/gmail/api/guides/) explicitly states that "The Gmail API should not be used to replace IMAP for full- fledged email client access. Instead, see IMAP and SMTP". They further state (https://developers.google.com/gmail/imap_extensions) that "Gmail provides a set of IMAP extensions to allow authors of IMAP clients provide a more Gmail-like experience through IMAP. Developers integrating Gmail features into their web or mobile apps may instead want to use the RESTful Gmail API."
To paraphrase: if you want to use Gmail via a web app, use their API. If you want to use it via a client program, use IMAP. Seems fairly unambiguous to me.
