Has anyone tried to install evolution 2.0 on fedora core 2???
I would like to install it but I don't want to break anything on my box.
Thanks in advance, Omar Ontiveros

Yes, I'm running 2.0.2. I have had no problems with any of the 2.0 releases.
I would like to install it but I don't want to break anything on my box.
I am using this YUM repository on FC2: http://petrix.se/evolution2

I follow the instructions in petrix.se/evolution2 and got some result:
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Base Server: Evolution 2.0 for Fedora Core 2 Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Released Updates Finding updated packages Downloading needed headers Resolving dependencies ..Package balsa needs libgal-2.0.so.6, this is not available. Package balsa needs libgal-a11y-2.0.so.6, this is not available. Package balsa needs libgtkhtml-3.0.so.4, this is not available.
my balsa packege : balsa-2.0.17-1
Any suggestion ??
Thanks, NG

The new version of evolution requires an updated version of libgal, libgal-2.2. However, you already have installed an application called balsa (another email client) that depends on your existing version of libgal, libgal-2.0. The balsa package needs libgal-2.0 rather than libgal-2.2. So there is no version of libgal that you can install that will satisfy both evolution2 and balsa. Hence yum falls over.
The same thing is happening for libgtkhtml.
Simplest solution: since you're installing evolution2 you probably don't need another email client like balsa. So rpm -e balsa and your problem should disappear.

Either: yum remove balsa
Or YUM won't allow you to install Evolution 2.0. Evolution 2.0 requires newer versions of some packages than FC2 provides. There may be a few other package conflicts. If you don't need the Balsa email client then there's no harm in removing it.
Thank you.. I'm done.. from now I'm using evolution 2..

Is you your /etc/hosts file looking like this?
($:~)- cat /etc/hosts # Do not remove the following line, or various programs # that require network functionality will fail. 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 192.168.xxx.xxx gmike.5150wtwm.com
xxx has the IP for my LAN
Also this is in my /etc/named.conf
zone "localhost" IN { type master; file "localhost.zone"; allow-update { none; }; };
With my /var/named/localhost.zone file looking like
(gufymike@gmike)(17/pts/28)(05:35:06:Mon Nov 08)- ($:~)- sudo cat /var/named/localhost.zone $TTL 86400 $ORIGIN localhost. @ 1D IN SOA @ root ( 42 ; serial (d. adams) 3H ; refresh 15M ; retry 1W ; expiry 1D ) ; minimum
1D IN NS @ 1D IN A 127.0.0.1
That should do it. If not the real experts here can help you.

You maybe have set a host name for your laptop in your lan... put it in /etc/hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost name-on-lan
