Hi all!
I did a major update of the nvidia-glx packages for livna.org. The new packages are available at:
http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn-testing/ (and hopefully soon in the x86_64 dir, too)
If you feel brave and want to help testing give them a try (The usual rawhide warnings apply here; so run at your own risk; I everything is fine those should be pushed to the normal livna-repository soon).
If you installed livna with the livna-release.rpm ( http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn/livna-release-4-0.lvn.5.4.noarch... ) then the following command should work to install those drivers easily:
yum --enablerepo=livna-testing install nvidia-glx kernel-module-nvidia-glx-$(uname -r)
BTW1: Those who want to get announcements when major updates/discussions happen around the package now can add their e-mail address to the nvidia-glx announce bug in the Livna bugzilla:
http://bugzilla.livna.org/show_bug.cgi?id=560
(sub BTW: for those interested in ati-fglrx: subscribe to http://bugzilla.livna.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351)
BTW2: Upstream removed support for the following Cards/Chipsets in the latest driver release afaik:
TNT2 TNT2 Pro TNT2 Ultra TNT2 Model 64 (M64) TNT2 Model 64 (M64) Pro Vanta Vanta LT GeForce 256 GeForce DDR GeForce2 GTS GeForce2 Pro GeForce2 Ti GeForce2 Ultra GeForce2 MX Integrated graphics Quadro Quadro2 Pro Quadro2 EX
You got one of this cards and want to continue to use the nvidia-driver with a nvidia-glx-legacy.rpm from livna? Then send me (in private) a small note and I'll consider such a package for the future.

I really appreciate your efforts here. Your nvidia packages are the only sane ones around, IMHO. Just one issue though. When nightly yum run automatically installs an updated kernel, it doesn't automatically update the nvidia kernel mod. I always have to manually figure out the correct name and run yum install.

Will they be being made available for FC3 too?
Best, Darren

Sure, they are available now.

Thanks, I've installed them. However, there seems to be a problem with the nvidia-driver init scripts. When I boot I see the NVidia splash screen when rhgb starts. Looking more closely, it seem that the init start script is installed but the init stop/reboot scripts are not.
Best, Darren

The major work was done by Peter Backlund. I just took over the maintainership.

This is a chicken and egg problem when it comes to yum and co. Current yum versions handle kernel-module-foo packages much better then in the past, but there are still issues that forces us to do it this way. We're working towards a better solution in the future.

Some folks mailed and now there it is: nvidia-glx-legacy for FC{3,4} {i386,x86_64} is now in livna. For example:
http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn/nvidia-glx-legacy-1.0.7174-0.lvn...
The up2date nvidia-driver is still found in the package nvidia-glx; current version:
http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn/nvidia-glx-1.0.7676-0.lvn.2.4.i3...
