I have been having kicker crashes now and then on FC4 when using the KDE desktop.
It seems to occur whenever I run the 'Control Center' program to change things.
Example: use control center to change the stye and colors used by KDE.
Then changes take effect ok, but when I log out, the kicker crash occurs.
When I log back in, all the changes I made are still there and KDE acts like nothing ever happen.
I have applied all the kde updates (e.g kdebase, kdelib, kdegraphics), arts and alsa updates, and the xorg updates found on the FC4 download site.
Note: other types of changes can be made in the control center, and kicker crashes may also occur.
Has anyone else been having problems with kicker?
ps: yes I re-created my ~/.kde dir after updates were applied.

Greetings,
I have a similar problem: every time I log out of either FC3 or FC4, I get a crash message that prevents the system from shutting down (unless the OK button is clicked), and the message says that it is the "kicker" that has crashed.
I have all of my home workstations set to NFS-mount my home directory from my home server, and I have yet to see the problem manifest on my laptop or with any other accounts having local home folders.
It's irritating but certainly not critical, and because it only happens when I'm logging out, I never think to file a bug report (although I'm using the KDE-redhat version of KDE and not the Fedora-shipped version).
Sorry, I guess I'm more commiserating than actually helping, but your post seemed lonely. :)
Aloha,

I see the same issue on my laptop running FC4

I also face this kicker crash but not concluded yet if it is control center changes or smething else. Now onwards I will take particular note.

Now see this too within the last week but not before. Run FC3, x86-64. Also, can't get "Admin mode" to work in KDE control panel when needed. Accepts password but leaves admin only things gray.

I have had and investigated both these phenomena for months, though not on your platform. I run FC4 in regular P4 boxes, two machines.
The kicker crash on logout has been discussed widely on a couple of lists - far as I know, it's not resolved, but doesn't cause further problems.
"Admin mode" on KDE Control Center not functioning is in KDE's bugzilla - as far as I know, currently it too is not resolved - for this there is a workaround. In /etc/rc.d/rc.local enter the following lines followed by a return:
# Temporary workaround for dcop errors rm -Rf /var/tmp/kdecache-*
This will have the effect of slightly extending the time of log-in operations, but should otherwise fix your Control Center problem, if it's the same issue. There's a long thread on the kde-redhat list about this entitled "dcop server"
