Thanks a lot :-) for all the help.
That unfortunatelly means that you don't have NTFS support for the current kernel. You have to either install a kernel that has that, or
could you suggest which distro has that ? as FC3 is beta i am not sure about it. Isnt there any other method of retrieving my data from D-drive ? :-(
/usr/bin/mozilla
then do an:
ls -l /usr/bin/mozilla
to see if it is a link pointing somewhere it shouldn't.
i did all of the abv and it is not a link pointing anywhere ... what next ..?

Kali,
You seem not to listening to many of the suggestions, you need to install an rpm kernel that has the NTFS drivers, Alexander Dalloz has pointed it out to you, the site I mean. The default FC1/2 doesn't have this driver in FC kernels.
If this is not you cup of tea, then you can try Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.org) and burn that to CD and boot that, that should mount the drives for you automatically in READ ONLY mode when it comes up.
Cheers,
Aly.

I have not installed the most recent kernel for FC2, so possibly it has changed, but the kernel sources RPM I have includes NTFS support. The kernel builds done by the FC team have it turned off, but the driver is there. All you have to do is build a new kernel after setting the proper option. If you use 'make menuconfig', you will find it under File systems --> DOS/FAT/NT Filesystems --> NTFS file system support. If you set that to 'Y' or 'M', then you will see two additional options.

No, the Fedora kernels never supported NTFS (not by any FC 1 or FC 2 kernel). The fact that the Linux kernel source does contain the code for building an NTFS module does not imply it is supported by Fedora kernels.

The correct way is described by Arjan ("the Fedora kernel guy") in:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=129377#c3
Rebuilding the whole kernel or at least running through a whole rebuild of all modules is a waste of time.

Does Fedora core-3 support NTFS without kernel rebuilding.

Fedora Core 3 doesn't exist yet, technically.
But the test versions don't include NTFS support, and it's *highly* unlikely that this will change, since the problem is legal and political, not technical.
On the other hand, with FC2 it is possible to install third-party RPMs that support NTFS, and this is almost certain to become available for FC3, shortly after it is released.
Hope this helps,
James.
