Hi,
I have been trying to convert pdf to eps using
pdf2ps -eps file.pdf
but I get the following:
Unknown switch -eps - ignoring Unknown switch -eps - ignoring
I seem to think that this worked just fine a month ago, but maybe I used some other switch.
What am I doing wrong?
I am on Fedora 20, all updated as of last night (21:00 CDT).
Many thanks and best wishes, Ranjan
Uhm... why don't you try t compile with pdflatex and then you can directly use the pdf files and graphics with other extensions but not eps. I think you should ask in http://tex.stackexchange.com/ Is a site specialized in TeX and friends. There was where I was asking about EBGaramond and that. I don't think the people in the Fedora list can help you. This is a topic further than the common issues related in this mail list.
Regards.

Thanks! But this is not a LaTeX question. I find this very strange. I can swear that it produced the desired result a month ago,
Ranjan

Sorry for so much quoting, but there was no way to trim it further without loss of context.
man pdf2ps
tells you that there are options that can be used, but doesn't list them. (Is it worth opening a bugzilla against the man page for this?)
[joe@khorlia ~]$ pdf2ps --help Usage: pdf2ps [-dASCII85EncodePages=false] [-dLanguageLevel=1|2|3] input.pdf [output.ps]
shows that -eps is not a valid switch or option for this program. HTH, HAND.

True. But if you do a search on it online (using DuckDuckGo, but why should that matter?) I find that the above should produce the desired result.
Meanwhile, I accidentally found a substitute way:
pdf2ps file.pdf ps2eps file.ps
Which still does not explain why something that I tried out a month ago has become inapplicable.
Many thanks!! Ranjan

Which is more likely to be right, some random web page, or the program's internal documentation? BTW, using info just gets you the manpage, and in this case, that's no help.
My apologies for so off topic but I feel it is important to have choice. Not intending to change the subject or start a flame war. <snip>

</snip> It matters because google SEO pre guesses what it thinks you want especially if you have done a fair bit of searching on a topic. Google works well the first time but becomes rapidly restrictive, limiting a search to those previous searched pages. DuckDuckGo and IXQuick do not save previous searches IXQuick has options to remove barriers.
I run frequently into this problem when searching for assistance with coding examples. Google always presents the same old same old to make one's searches easier. I no longer use google for serious searches because of it's limitations. Hope this helps. Roger

I am not sure if this is relevant, but I use the following Encrypted DuckDuckGo with Google Suggest search plugin:
http://eligrey.com/blog/post/tag/search
It does suggest terms very well!

Have you tried not letting it set cookies on your browser?

Yes sure did, problem is some sites won't load unless they are permitted to install cookies. I delete history and cookies very regularly, sometimes a couple of times a day. It's a Google thing, browser cache and history exacerbate the problem. I have noticed that sites I have browsed are repeated at the top of Google search lists on entirely different computers searching the same terms, using the same modem/router. Where as if someone on another computer does the search before me or in a different browser using say IXQuick they have entirely different responses. Also my daughter doing her science degree suffered the same problem where Google refused to find sites she knows exist, she too now uses IXQuick with far wider results. Roger

You might consider Startpage: https://startpage.com/ It's the only major search engine that doesn't keep a record of your IP address or use tracking cookies. And, since it isn't based in the US, there's nothing the NSA can do about it.

well that just might be because _it_is_ ixquick.
have a look at:
https://ixquick.com/eng/privacy-policy.html
then,
https://startpage.com/eng/privacy-policy.html
and note upper left corner.
Great news
so you can stay with ixquick.

they are not similar, they are one and the same. it's a user friendly name for the same service.

You need to use "pdftops", not "pdf2ps". The former has many more features, including eps support.
