Hi!
Installed a script/app which doesn't have a launcher and finding difficulty to create one. Google searches tend to lead me to askubuntu with solutions which do not work for me. GNOME wiki didn't seem to have a solution that I could find neither.
The most descriptive solution I found is here: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/103213/how-can-i-add-an-application-...
but the app doesn't appear listed in the listed apps, therefore blocking me from adding it to the dash.
Running the app creates a launcher in the dash, but I can't copy it to have when the app is closed.
I must be missing something obvious, just can't figure out what...
Any tip would be welcome.
Thank you.
Fred

Did you create a .desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/ as that question describes? Once you've done that, it should appear when you search in the overview, and then you can right-click it and add it to your favorites, which will be shown on the dash.

Yes I did. I also copied that file in /usr/share/applications. Unfortunately it never appears anywhere (whether I ALT+F2, r or log out and back in). So there must be something stupid that I can't figure out...right? ;-)

Does running desktop-file-validate on your .desktop file give you anything?

Just one question, have you found the desktop file for one of the apps that does appear in the launcher the way you want your app to appear, and compared that desktop file to the one for your app to see if there are any entries in the one that works that aren't in yours?
regards, Steve

Hi!
Yes! I was using ~/ for the location of the file and I needed to use full file path!
Thank you very much!
