Is there a way to run DOS programs on Linux (FC2)?

I am attempting to do something similar to this. I want to convert all my computers over to linux but do not want to give up my games. I have downloaded and installed wine and so far it seems the only application that I can get to work is notepad. explorer.exe, iexplore.exe, regedit.exe, cmd.exe and a host of other "native" windows applications will not even run.
I know it is not a windows configuration issue as I did a fresh install of winxp and copied the entire directory structure to ~/.wine/drive_c and modified the ~/.wine/config file to point to all of the correct directories and settings.
Whenever I run any application it gives me a bunch of "err:module:import_dll No implementation for..." errors and then terminates wine. Anyone have any luck with getting wine to work? Is it just a matter of getting all the correct information in the config file? Can someone provide me with a working config file for winxp? Am I crazy?
I've tried searching through the http://winehq.com site for anything but apparently I am not technically inclined enough to decipher quite a bit of the available information. I am not new to linux but have spent the last 8 years supporting windows machines in a corporate environment and have only dabbled in the glory that is linux! ha
Enough mumbling. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tom Sapp http://www.sappsworld.com

try reading fedorafaq.org and installing the rpm for wine. for games transgaming's wineX might be a better choice. for others check out crossover office. I havent used either of them thou

I evaluated crossover office earlier this year. It appeared to work fairly well for several windows applications. The major item which made it unusable for my purposes was poor support for quickbooks.
If you do go with crossover office make sure you have a machine that is at least 1.7 GHz and minimum 512MB of memory. Less than that and it becomes very painful.
Programs such as excel worked very well with it.
Does Quicken work with Crossover Office, or any of the other emulators???
That's one of the few programs I still use windows for regularly and would love to use on Linux. I tried GnuCash a couple times and found it unacceptable.

Not sure about Quicken. I tried Quickbooks and was able to get it to work with very basic options. But it died if I tried to use the more complex features of the package. It was also some what slow responding.
It may work well for Quicken. You can get an evaluation copy of crossover office to try it.
We will be looking for a pure linux solution to replace quickbooks. Probably SQL-Ledger. I have it installed but have not started evaluating it yet. The write ups look promising however.
I suspect that package would be over kill as a replacement for quicken.

Greg, You might try Sql-Ledger if you need the full accounting package. http://www.sql-ledger.org/
