I've just installed FC3 on my hard drive It is incredibly slow and the graphics dont display correctly or refresh very well; some times not at all. The only way I can see certain windows is to pass the mouse over the window to display the contents. Some program options form the menu don't display at all particularly those related to system or preferences Any help would be most appreciated Steve

Steve, you need to provide more information, i.e. desktop/laptop, cpu, MHz, amount of RAM, display adapter, type/number of hard drive(s), etc. Without that information we have very little to go by to help you.

Thanks Kam I'm new at this and not sure where to start. I am running a Dell PIII 1.1 GHz with 512 MbRam 2 hard drives and integrated audio/video. The video chip is Intel 810 I think the problem is with my video resolution. I inadvertently set it too high for my card. I think the maximum resolution is 1248x1024 I dont know enough about this to change the resolution via a terminal and when I try to bring up system settings, the monitor goes wacky. I suppose I could just reinstall Fedora and hope I can change the resolution in the process??
Thanks for your help Steve

---- with Linux, you shouldn't have to reboot for most stuff, let alone re- install.
Press Control-Alt-F2 login as root type...
telinit 3 system-config-display --reconfig
When you get the resolution to where you want... telinit 5

Check the color depth setting. Max res and true (24-bit) color will slow down your system.

Stephen,
The i810 video driver is broken with the original FC3 distribution but the latest xorg packages have gone some distance to fixing the problems. Boot up in run level 3 and update your system with the latest xorg packages and it may fix your problems. One work-around for many of us with the original FC3 driver is to add to the driver section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf the following line:
Option "noaccel"
This, and other options, are described in the document displayed when you issue "man i810" at the command prompt.
Regards, Mike Klinke

The video chip is Intel 810 ================================= There's the problem. Do a Google/Linux search on FC3 and i810 and get the new driver needed for that chip. Install the new driver and Bob's Your Uncle......... Mike

Looks like a problem with your xorg video driver.
Identify your video card. Read xorg's driver-specific notes for your hardware. By default, all hardware acceleration options are enabled. Try disabling hardware acceleration, one option at the time, to see if it cures your display corruption.

Uh... What graphics card do you have? some info about your hardware would be helpful...
