Will Firefox 3.6 be pushed?

Hey all, I'm still new to Fedora in that I've never seen a new major
version of Firefox in this time.

Will Firefox 3.6 be pushed out as a system upgrade, or will Fedora
stick to the stable 3.5 series?

if so, any idea of eta? Would it be similiar to 3.5 series or take
longer cause it's a major upgrade?

Warning! Firefox 3.6 has been reported to create insurmountable problems 
for some publishers of Web content.

The site involved is examiner.com. Independent contractors (of which I 
am one) report losing key features of the back-end publication tool, to 
the point at which they can't publish anything.

If Firefox 3.6 is not stable, then I suggest not pushing it out until it is.

And we know that this is a Firefox 3.6 problem and not one with the
CMS for "examiner.com" because...?

I assume you've done the obvious things like trying a completely
clean, plugin free install of Firefox 3.6 and, unless the CMS is
completely specific to the site, checked to see if any other sites
that use the same CMS are also experiencing problems?  Have you
checked the Developers release notes at
https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Firefox_3.6_for_developers to see
whether any of the changes that have been made might be breaking your
CMS?

Not that a delay in pushing Firefox isn't a good idea if there were
any issues, but I suspect that a little more supporting evidence than
is contained in your post above would be required to warrant it,
especially given that it provides numerous desirable improvements such
as much faster JavaScript performance.

Sounds like an interesting problem. Do you have an upstream bug number I
can watch?

Previous major Firefox updates only landed in current+1.
I doubt that F12 will be any different. (Read: FF 3.6 will only land in
F13)

Note that there is a potential loss of functionality in Firefox 3.6 
because it only supports the new java plugin libnpjp2.so and drops support 
for libjavaplugin_oji.so . This is fine if you know about it and are 
running SUN java but OpenJDK doesn't provide an equivalent for 
libnpjp2.so, or if it does it isn't obvious. Thus if someone is using 
OpenJDK will find that java has stopped working.

If your not otherwise using sqlite you can grab Firefox 3.6 from Rawhide. 
I'm running it now.

	yum --enablerepo=rawhide update firefox

You'll get an update for firefox, xulrunner and sqlite.

Don't do it if you need to print web pages. There's an unfixed bug in
the rawhide which causes firefox to crash whenever you try to print a
web page.

I have no idea when I last printed a web page. Other than a long long

I guess you don't do much in the way of online transactions where receipts,
invoices, rebate forms, confirmations, etc. are on web pages that may need
to be printed.  For most of the "We suggest you print a copy for your
records" stuff, I just use "print to file" rather than to paper, but the
"Send a copy of this form, a copy of your receipt or invoice, and the
original UPC label ..." items have to go to the printer.  If printing
from web pages didn't work, I'd be switching to a different browser or
a different OS real quick.

DO NOT DO THIS! A lot of stuff uses sqlite or xulrunner, you'll end up with 
many things upgraded to Rawhide versions in most cases, ending up in an 
unsupportable mix of F12 and Rawhide. You have been warned!

Folks, please STOP recommending "--enablerepo=rawhide" as a solution to 
anything, it's almost always the wrong answer. The ONLY valid use of
"--enablerepo=rawhide" is "yum --enablerepo=rawhide update" (i.e.
upgrade to 
Rawhide entirely, with all the resulting breakage, i.e. NOT something I'd 
recommend to the average user). Selective upgrades are NOT SUPPORTED and 
will in almost all cases NOT work as expected due to chains of dependencies 
and reverse dependencies dragging in a lot of stuff.

A less dangerous solution is to use Remi Collet's repository at 
http://blog.famillecollet.com/ . Remi actually builds the current Firefox 
for F12, so you don't end up with a dependency mess.

But a word of warning about Firefox 3.6: don't upgrade to 3.6 (no matter 
how) if you use the OpenJDK plugin, as it has not been ported yet.

Has anyone been successful with the Mozilla version of Firefox 3.6?  I 
tried it, but found it unusable on my F11 box.

Ceci sur ce que j'en lis, je ne pousserait pas l'upgrade...
Par exemple, java ne marchera plus que pour ceux qui utilisent la jvm sun...
